Week Eight

While touring and using MySpace, I discovered some pros and cons. I would say that some of the pros include the fact that people who share interests can meet each other, people who know each other can communicate through their profiles, and people who want to show off their stuff can do that here. One con includes the relative difficulty in locating a specific profile if the url/address is unknown (for instance, I looked up my friend Kelly with her first and last name and I got only 1 "Kelly", and it was not her). I know that MySpace users may use different names, and this is why it can be difficult to locate them with name only. But that is definitely a disadvantage. Fortunately, I can call Kelly and get more info if I want.

I think social networking sites are so popular for a variety of reasons. One of them is that people are fascinated with technology. They love discovering new and different ways to communicate on the web. Also, a lot of people are very social and enjoy sharing interests with others. Some people also have lifestyles that make it hard for them to meet and communicate with others. Social networking sites provide a simple way for them to do this.

Much like with Flickr, the Arcadia Public Library has already made very good use of MySpace by giving the Library its own account. I notice there are many friends who like to comment to the Library and to each other. I think it's working out fine.

Week Seven

It was very easy to set up a Google Docs account. In fact, it was so simple, I barely remember doing it. I guess this is due to the fact that we've already established our Google accounts. The rest was just about following step-by-step instructions.

I found the document-making feature very easy to use. I did not find the spreadsheet-making feature easy, though. I do not like the way it looks and could not figure out how to change it. But, I have almost no experience with spreadsheets; just my ready-made bi-weekly timesheets is about all.

I will use document-making feature in the future. I like the fact that I can work on forms, letters and documents on any PC. This is a major stress-relieving notion.

My favorite feature was the document part, as I have explained. It's very "handy" as I talked about in the document I created for this project.

Th Arcadia Public Library could make use of Google Docs by enabling staff to view and comment on each others documents whenever this is necessary. Maybe we could use Google Docs for the timesheets instead of Excel.
